I am in my late 30s and I am a wife to my husband, Jay, and a mother to two beautiful boys, Oliver and Xander. We also have a rescue Chiweenie, Coco!

I am a Family Nurse Practitioner and my most recent practice has been 11 years experience in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). I also have experience in Burn ICU, Trauma ICU, Neuro ICU, and Pediatric ICU nursing. I went to the University of Florida (GO GATORS!) for my Bachelor Degree in Nursing and I graduated from Columbia University with my Master’s Degree.

I hold a certificate as a Legal Nurse Consultant through SUNY, Stonybrook University and am an ACE certified Health Coach.

I have struggled my entire life with my weight. I have done every diet under the sun. I have always been active with a love for the outdoors including hiking, biking, and swimming. However, even though I could always lose weight, I could never keep it off. When it came back on, I always added 5-10 more pounds and it felt like a losing battle. I struggled with portion control and I didn’t know the right foods to eat. Even as a nurse, I still struggled with this. I did my best to maintain a positive body image and tried to never let the number on the scale dictate the way I felt about myself, but many days, I was just fooling myself.

When I was in my late 20s, I decided to train and race in a triathlon, because I thought it would finally help me get fit and improve my health. I exercised 2-3 hours a day and lost 35 pounds and was the most fit I have ever been. I ran in 3 triathlons and was very proud of myself. But once the season was over, I gained it all back and then some. Why? Because I didn’t change my lifestyle. I stopped exercising and went back to a diet high in fat and sugar.

Being a NICU Nurse Practitioner, I really understood the risks of being obese during pregnancy. I didn’t want to place my unborn baby or myself at risk due to my weight. I decided to have LapBand surgery in 2012 to finally help me maintain a healthy weight and improve my chances of having a healthy pregnancy. A year later, I had lost about 40 pounds slow and steady and then had a complication called a band slip where I had to undergo emergency surgery to replace my band. Why did my band slip? Because I didn’t make the necessary dietary changes as well as psychological changes required to utilize my band properly and I failed it.

That was a wake up call for me. After healing from that surgery, I was blessed to get pregnant and have my son, Oliver Owen O’Dell (we call him Triple O). To be honest, as a working mom, I often found myself in the fast food lanes and getting takeout for dinner more nights than not. While I would eat unhealthy food, I would prepare healthy food for Oliver. When he started wanting the food on my plate, I realized that really  needed to make a change and NOW so that I could be a healthy role model for him from the very beginning of his life.

That is where MY health coach came into my life. She invited me to one of her online support groups and I gave Shakeology and the 21 Day Fix a try. I really gave it my all for those 21 Days and I can truly say it transformed the way I look at food, exercise, and nutrition.  I started learning healthy portion sizes, a cleaner way of eating, and I also started making daily exercise a priority. I was able to lose another 40 pounds (total of 80 pounds) with the help of these programs and my coach. I also decreased bloating and dropped inches and clothing sizes from 12/14 down to a size 4! I reached goals I never even thought I would dream of.

Why was I able to make these changes this time and not any other time? Because I had the support of my coach and of our online support groups.
